Nearly every state in the Northeastern region has established renewable energy goals in an effort to reduce pollution, minimize reliance on fuel imports and save on heating costs.

Maine boasts the highest percentage of non-hydro renewable energy generation than any other state in the union.

Connecticut established to first Green Bank in the country, leading to more renewable energy installations. New Jersey has nearly 28,000 solar power installations, and New York leads the nation in hydroelectric generation.

Energy in the North East is changing shape as state leaders respond to consumers’ concerns and move toward cheaper, more plentiful and renewable energy sources. Currently, the region is one of the country’s top producers overall of solar power and biomass power capacity.

With the establishment of incentive programs, credits, rebates and green banks, the North East is reinventing the way it produces and uses energy.
